Diagrammatic study of optical excitations in correlated systems

چکیده

The optical conductivity contains relevant information on the properties of correlated electron systems. In infinite dimensions, where dynamical mean field theory becomes exact, vertex corrections can be neglected and computed from particle-hole bubbles. An interesting question concerns nature effect most in finite-dimensional A recent numerical study showed that dominant correction near an ordering instability with wave vector $\ensuremath{\pi}$ comes a vertical ladder, analogous to Maki-Thompson diagram. Since random phase approximation version this ladder diagram, dubbed $\ensuremath{\pi}$-ton, easily evaluated, suggests simple procedure for incorporating antiferromagnetic or charge density fluctuations into estimates related susceptibilities. We implement half-filled Hubbard model, considering double-ladder extension $\ensuremath{\pi}$-ton Aslamazov-Larkin-type diagrams, reveal spectral signatures these corrections.

Double excitations in correlated systems: a many-body approach.

A coherent approach to the description of double excitations in correlated materials is presented: We derive stringent mathematical conditions on the algebraical structure of the Bethe-Salpeter and time-dependent density functional theory kernels that avoid the occurrence of spurious and nonphysical excitations. We discuss how these conditions need to be respected at any level of approximation,...

Dual boson approach to collective excitations in correlated fermionic systems

We develop a general theory of a boson decomposition for both local and non-local interactions in lattice fermion models which allows us to describe fermionic degrees of freedom and collective charge and spin excitations on equal footing. An efficient perturbation theory in the interaction of the fermionic and the bosonic degrees of freedom is constructed in so-called dual variables in the path...

Resonant inelastic x-ray scattering as a probe of optical scale excitations in strongly electron-correlated systems: quasi-localized view

An application of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering technique for studying of optical scale excitations in electron-correlated materials is discussed. Examples are given including data obtained for 3d transition metal, lanthanide, and actinide systems. In some cases, the data are compared with the results of crystal-field multiplet and Anderson impurity model calculations. Advantages of this ...

Optical response of correlated electron systems.

Recent progress in experimental techniques has made it possible to extract detailed information on dynamics of carriers in a correlated electron material from its optical conductivity, [Formula: see text]. This review consists of three parts, addressing the following three aspects of optical response: (1) the role of momentum relaxation; (2) [Formula: see text] scaling of the optical conductivi...

Optical study of orbital excitations in transition-metal oxides

The orbital excitations of a series of transition-metal compounds are studied by means of optical spectroscopy. Our aim was to identify signatures of collective orbital excitations by comparison with experimental and theoretical results for predominantly local crystal-field excitations. To this end, we have studied TiOCl, RTiO3 (R=La, Sm, Y), LaMnO3, Y2BaNiO5, CaCu2O3, and K4Cu4OCl10, ranging f...
